THE SILVER SAGA CONTINUES...

"“At which point did the assembly begin?”

“If Raja Nazrin’s speech was to start off the session how could they conduct any business before that?” he asked.

Imtiaz also pointed out that the assembly had also flouted other conventions, including not holding the swearing-in for Ganesan to be Speaker. This, he noted, was usually held in another ceremony at another time before the ruler."

I GOT TO GET A MESSAGE TO YOU

"Despite the rain (and it does rain a lot in these Bukits) and the strategic placement of the election on a Tuesday (which clearly had an effect on the lower turnout of younger voters working outstation), many of them used their right to vote to send a message.

The end result is that Najib did not get the mandate he needed and the opposition was given another boost, especially in Perak, where the cloud of possible polls hangs over the court decision and mid-May requirement to hold a state assembly session."

UMNO BOLEH...

"While UKM political scientist Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Agus Yusoff says the board’s action is a good first move, he, however, believes it is only cosmetic in nature.

He questions why Ali is not suspended from the party and gets to hang on to his Malacca Chief Minister post while in the last election, Tan Sri Isa Samad (who was found guilty of money politics) was made to quit his ministerial post, sacked as vice-president and suspended from the party for six years, which upon appeal was reduced to three years.

“There has been over 1,000 complaints made to the board, why have they only dealt with 29 cases? What happened to the complaints against (Datuk) Norza (Zakaria) and (Datuk) Azalina Othman Said?” he asks.

RIGHTS & PRIVELEGES OF RUSTAM ALI

"The disciplinary board barred Dato’ Seri Mohd Ali Rustam from elections without suspending him from the Party. However I do not see how they may bar him from contesting so long as he remains a member of the Party. The Societies Act defines the “eligibility to hold office in the committee or governing body of the society,” along with the right to vote, as a constitutional right of every member. The disciplinary board can remove certain privileges but not rights provided by the Constitution. Umno’s constitution cannot be interpreted contrary to the Societies Act.

So long as Mohd Ali remains a member, it is just as wrong to deprive him of his candidacy as to deprive him of his right to vote."

A PERAKIAN VIEW .... DEBACLE IN PERAK

Karim Raslan, a Perakian wrote in his column CERITALAH in The Star on Tuesday February 10, 2009 `Troubled by debacle in Perak' among other ....

" It’s important to note that the change in power in Perak does not constitute a BN “victory”.
As we know, exuberance in Umno circles is hardly a good indication of the sentiment on the ground.
We have witnessed a debacle, a series of events that has created mountains of ill-will, resentment and anger which will simmer for many years to come.
Now, for a coalition like BN, whose reputation is already in tatters, what has happened in Perak serves to confirm our worst suspicions of a lack of principles in their political manoeuvrings even though many argue that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim started it all.
As far as I can see, neither the BN nor Umno had attempted to reform themselves.
Instead, introspection and reflection have been replaced by backroom deal-makings of the past.
Finally, Umno has secured power without reform.

This is the kind of victory Umno likes – the kind of victory that requires no sacrifice or changes in its practices.

The party of Merdeka has inadvertently unleashed powerful forces that will further undermine the Malay ethos it seeks to champion as PAS’ supporters and the young become ever more suspicious and distrustful of all mainstream institutions."

STILL IN PERAK ....DO YOU REMEMBER TERENGGANU ???

"Did they forget this banner displayed in Terengganu by Umno and Umno Youth members?

What did they call our DYTM Yang di Pertuan Agong who is also the DYMM Sultan of Terengganu?

What did our PM says about the decision by DYMM Sultan Terengganu and our present Agong?

[Quote]

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi defended his choice of former MB Datuk Idris Jusoh for the post, saying “the appointment of anyone other than Idris is unconstitutional and invalid.” He said this was because the majority of the assemblymen in Terengganu wants Idris, the Jertih assemblyman to be reappointed the MB.

Did Umno Youth forgot about their protest against the Sultan of Terengganu on the appointment of Ahmad Said?

PREACHING & PRACTISING IN PERAK

"In his book “Constitutional Monarchy, Rule of Law and Good Governance” (2004), the former Lord President wrote:

“Under normal circumstances, it is taken for granted that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong would not withhold his consent to a request for dissolution of parliament. His role is purely formal.”

He also pointed out that no sultan or agung had withheld consent to dissolve legislative body, except in Kelantan in 1977.

Deja vu? People may now frown upon the royal family with changed views."

IT HAPPENED IN PERAK...

"In a landmark judgment Justice Tan Chiaw Tong of the High Court in Sabah upheld the following precedents - that a ruler can appoint as chief minister an elected member of the legislature who in his opinion enjoyed the confidence of a majority of the members; and, that once appointed a chief minister was obliged to resign only after he had lost a vote of no confidence in the legislature. Datuk Professor Dr Shamsul Amri - RACE TENSIONS

From NST 28/09/2008

RACE RELATION ACT :

“You can't just have a law about something you don't know about just because someone from Bukit Bendera said something bad. “

STATE OF RACE RELATION :

Race relations is at a state of stable tension.
There will be times this tension will reach its height and sort of shake us up but it won't uproot everything.”

CAUSE OF STABLE TENSION :

“When we have five different school systems, what do you expect?”

“I'm saying that we live with contradictions in this country. We have different schools, different mediums of instruction. Already in writing, we have differences that invite differences of opinions about many things. For me, that is inevitable. That is the system that, like it or not, we have come to accept in this country.”

DNA - MISIDENTIFICATION !!!

* Expert states the odds of a DNA misidentification are 1 in 100 billion.

BUT THEN ...

* State crime lab analyst Kathryn Troyer was running tests on Arizona's DNA database discovered two criminals with
remarkably similar genetic profiles.
* It matches at nine of the 13 locations on chromosomes, or loci, commonly used to distinguish people.
* The two criminals were not related: One was black, the other white.
* Later Troyer found dozens of similar matches — each seeming to defy impossible odds and defied the statistics.
* Some experts predict a search would produce one or more examples of unrelated people who are identical at all 13 loci.
* Such a discovery was once unimaginable.

WHAZZUP DOC?

From The Star Online
Friday August 22, 2008
"Don’t draw conclusions, says Health D-G

PETALING JAYA: The public should refrain from drawing conclusions or making misleading speculation from medical reports alone, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said.
Referring to the circulation of a flyer alleging that a person was not sodomised based entirely on physical examination findings from a medical record released in the Internet, Dr Ismail stressed that one could not be certain that sexual abuse had taken place simply based on such findings.
“No lay person should make his or her own interpretation of what may have happened simply by looking at the medical records, without knowing the circumstances and other important information that only the examining medical practitioner may be privy to,” he said in a statement"

BUT THEN

Excerpts From Malaysiakini
Sep 5, 08 12:12pm

"Can you confirm it was a sodomy-related examination?

Normally every doctor can check - that is what we call per-rectal examination. Every doctor knows how to do it, that is normal practice, (one doesn’t) need to be a specialist for that examination. That’s it, I used the per-rectal examination.
So you are saying you’re qualified to do it? The hospital said you are just a medical officer.
Yes. Every medical doctor can do the test. That is a very basic test.
Generally, how’s the test carried out?
We have a look at the anus area, then we put the finger (in to) check whether everything is normal or abnormal, then we’ll put the proctoscope and look whether there is any bleeding, scar or (signs of) abnormality, that is what we call per-rectal examination.
Every doctor must know (this test). You just check (the results of) the examination (and), you may know everything.
In the statutory declaration, you claimed that the police were tried to tamper with your witness statement, could you elaborate on this? You said it was the police who inserted Anwar’s name into your statement?
I don’t understand Bahasa (Malaysia), at that time they didn’t mention Datuk Seri’s (Anwar’s) name (in the witness statement), they just mentioned a VIP.
Did you ever advise Saiful to lodge a police report?
Never, never. I advised him to go to the general hospital or any government hospital.
You said you didn’t know that the patient was Saiful - did you not get the patient’s folder with his name before you examined him?
There are so many patients. We (usually) see the patient, their face, (whether they are) male or female, our diagnosis - that’s what we get from the patient.
When I read the newspapers and saw his name in the newspaper, I didn’t know he was my patient. That afternoon when I started my duty I called my nurse and checked in the computer whether he was my patient.
(Then we confirmed) he came on June 28, only at that time I came to know he was my patient. The TV3 news showed Saiful’s photo (but) when I saw the photo I didn’t know (it was him) because the photo was different (from how he looked).
Were you surprised to read (in the newspapers) that he claimed he was sodomised - something that was totally different from what you found from the medical examination?
(Pauses) I will give the evidence in court.
Why did you decide to come out in public at this juncture?
After taking leave, I feel relieved and I decided to come back to Malaysia, I wanted to clear my name."

PROTON HYBRID CARS

channelnewsasia.com :

Malaysia's state-owned carmaker Proton is developing a new, fuel-efficient hybrid car to beat rising costs and address environmental concerns. Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told the state Bernama news agency he had already test-driven the car and urged the company to continue researching energy-saving technologies

From www.hybrids-tech.com

"A car with Hybrid technology has two engines, side by side, under the bonnet. This means an electric engine here and a petrol engine there. Seeing today’s cars we come to know that majority cars driven by one or the other engine. This means not that cost effective. Thus, for better mileage and maximum performance, you get them both chiming in together, so you get more power. This can only be found in hybrid cars. That’s why people prefer them over others.

In hybrid car the electric engine also charges the batteries, and that neatly gets you around the old problem of electric cars of having to plug it into the mains overnight. This means no need to worry about recharging too. But one of the biggest disadvantages attached with hybrid cars is that they needed big, heavy battery packs which took up all of the back seat. But this is also now rectified as now you get a full four-seater capacity and enough room in the luggage space for two or three small dogs or maybe even one really big one.

Thus, we can now say that hybrid car is the best and safe option to go for. "

BUT THEN

FROM : http://www.post1.net/lowem/entry/malaysia_proton_to_develop_hybrid_car

An admirable effort, but one has to wonder whether they are up to the technical challenge, given how Toyota has had over a 10-year headstart, with the 2009 Toyota Prius looming, and the Honda Civic Hybrid is into the second generation as well. Techniques such as regenerative braking, hybrid drivetrains and battery management software are not developed overnight. One prototype test car does not a production-ready model make. They would need to do some heavy-duty partnering
