Datuk Professor Dr Shamsul Amri - RACE TENSIONS

From NST 28/09/2008

RACE RELATION ACT :

“You can't just have a law about something you don't know about just because someone from Bukit Bendera said something bad. “

STATE OF RACE RELATION :

Race relations is at a state of stable tension.
There will be times this tension will reach its height and sort of shake us up but it won't uproot everything.”

CAUSE OF STABLE TENSION :

“When we have five different school systems, what do you expect?”

“I'm saying that we live with contradictions in this country. We have different schools, different mediums of instruction. Already in writing, we have differences that invite differences of opinions about many things. For me, that is inevitable. That is the system that, like it or not, we have come to accept in this country.”

HELLO .. I 'M HERE ...CAN'T YOU SEE ME?

Old, tattered and crumbling . Sitting In a small town far from maddening crowd ?? Maybe a world heritage item ? Nah ...this is a shophouse smack in the middle of Kuala Lumpur shopping street - Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman ! ... And there's a couple more of the same. City hall... powerless ... too busy... oversight ..????

DNA - MISIDENTIFICATION !!!

* Expert states the odds of a DNA misidentification are 1 in 100 billion.

BUT THEN ...

* State crime lab analyst Kathryn Troyer was running tests on Arizona's DNA database discovered two criminals with
remarkably similar genetic profiles.
* It matches at nine of the 13 locations on chromosomes, or loci, commonly used to distinguish people.
* The two criminals were not related: One was black, the other white.
* Later Troyer found dozens of similar matches — each seeming to defy impossible odds and defied the statistics.
* Some experts predict a search would produce one or more examples of unrelated people who are identical at all 13 loci.
* Such a discovery was once unimaginable.

WHAZZUP DOC?

From The Star Online
Friday August 22, 2008
"Don’t draw conclusions, says Health D-G

PETALING JAYA: The public should refrain from drawing conclusions or making misleading speculation from medical reports alone, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said.
Referring to the circulation of a flyer alleging that a person was not sodomised based entirely on physical examination findings from a medical record released in the Internet, Dr Ismail stressed that one could not be certain that sexual abuse had taken place simply based on such findings.
“No lay person should make his or her own interpretation of what may have happened simply by looking at the medical records, without knowing the circumstances and other important information that only the examining medical practitioner may be privy to,” he said in a statement"

BUT THEN

Excerpts From Malaysiakini
Sep 5, 08 12:12pm

"Can you confirm it was a sodomy-related examination?

Normally every doctor can check - that is what we call per-rectal examination. Every doctor knows how to do it, that is normal practice, (one doesn’t) need to be a specialist for that examination. That’s it, I used the per-rectal examination.
So you are saying you’re qualified to do it? The hospital said you are just a medical officer.
Yes. Every medical doctor can do the test. That is a very basic test.
Generally, how’s the test carried out?
We have a look at the anus area, then we put the finger (in to) check whether everything is normal or abnormal, then we’ll put the proctoscope and look whether there is any bleeding, scar or (signs of) abnormality, that is what we call per-rectal examination.
Every doctor must know (this test). You just check (the results of) the examination (and), you may know everything.
In the statutory declaration, you claimed that the police were tried to tamper with your witness statement, could you elaborate on this? You said it was the police who inserted Anwar’s name into your statement?
I don’t understand Bahasa (Malaysia), at that time they didn’t mention Datuk Seri’s (Anwar’s) name (in the witness statement), they just mentioned a VIP.
Did you ever advise Saiful to lodge a police report?
Never, never. I advised him to go to the general hospital or any government hospital.
You said you didn’t know that the patient was Saiful - did you not get the patient’s folder with his name before you examined him?
There are so many patients. We (usually) see the patient, their face, (whether they are) male or female, our diagnosis - that’s what we get from the patient.
When I read the newspapers and saw his name in the newspaper, I didn’t know he was my patient. That afternoon when I started my duty I called my nurse and checked in the computer whether he was my patient.
(Then we confirmed) he came on June 28, only at that time I came to know he was my patient. The TV3 news showed Saiful’s photo (but) when I saw the photo I didn’t know (it was him) because the photo was different (from how he looked).
Were you surprised to read (in the newspapers) that he claimed he was sodomised - something that was totally different from what you found from the medical examination?
(Pauses) I will give the evidence in court.
Why did you decide to come out in public at this juncture?
After taking leave, I feel relieved and I decided to come back to Malaysia, I wanted to clear my name."

PROTON HYBRID CARS

channelnewsasia.com :

Malaysia's state-owned carmaker Proton is developing a new, fuel-efficient hybrid car to beat rising costs and address environmental concerns. Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told the state Bernama news agency he had already test-driven the car and urged the company to continue researching energy-saving technologies

From www.hybrids-tech.com

"A car with Hybrid technology has two engines, side by side, under the bonnet. This means an electric engine here and a petrol engine there. Seeing today’s cars we come to know that majority cars driven by one or the other engine. This means not that cost effective. Thus, for better mileage and maximum performance, you get them both chiming in together, so you get more power. This can only be found in hybrid cars. That’s why people prefer them over others.

In hybrid car the electric engine also charges the batteries, and that neatly gets you around the old problem of electric cars of having to plug it into the mains overnight. This means no need to worry about recharging too. But one of the biggest disadvantages attached with hybrid cars is that they needed big, heavy battery packs which took up all of the back seat. But this is also now rectified as now you get a full four-seater capacity and enough room in the luggage space for two or three small dogs or maybe even one really big one.

Thus, we can now say that hybrid car is the best and safe option to go for. "

BUT THEN

FROM : http://www.post1.net/lowem/entry/malaysia_proton_to_develop_hybrid_car

An admirable effort, but one has to wonder whether they are up to the technical challenge, given how Toyota has had over a 10-year headstart, with the 2009 Toyota Prius looming, and the Honda Civic Hybrid is into the second generation as well. Techniques such as regenerative braking, hybrid drivetrains and battery management software are not developed overnight. One prototype test car does not a production-ready model make. They would need to do some heavy-duty partnering

CAMERON HIGHLANDS

In Perak, Malaysia, a few km from Ipoh , turn into Simpang Pulai toll, then follow the signboards. The Highlands is totally different from the lowlands. Hibiscus flowers are so much bigger in size. Cactus displays hues of color and in a variety of shapes.Strawberry fruits are grown in abundance and can be self plucked for a price.

Saiful replied : It’s all a coincidence. We don’t know that Anwar is going to contest…

BUT THEN....

Yet, on 2nd August, Malaysiakini reported that in a posting in Saiful’s blog on 1st August, ‘Saiful also briefly wished Anwar ‘good luck’ in contesting for the Permatang Pauh by-election’.

This is what Saiful posted in his blog on 1st August : Kepada DSAI, saya mengucapkan selamat bertanding"

KOPITIAM

In Malaysia, when you drive up to Toll Utara Alor Setar, take a left turn after the toll until you reach the trafic light leading to Jalan Telok Wan Jah. Turn right.Drive along until you reached the roundabout. After the roundabout slow down and watch out for the KOPITIAM signboard. Take a left turn and another left turn to park your car. This KOPITIAM , little known to outowners used to be the old Convent School. Come in the KOPITIAM and you will be spoilt for the numerous choices of local and mamak food. The eating area ambience is quite peculiar since the main dining hall used to be classrooms !I stumbled upon this place while searching for breakfast one morning. Give it try and be pleasantly surprised not only for the food but for the place itself. Feel it yourself!

HYDRO FUEL

From http://www.hydrofuelsolutions.com

"The technology of using hydrogen as a combustion enhancement in internal combustion engines has been researched and proven for many years. The benefits are factual and well documented. Our own utilization of this technology. i.e. the hydrogen injection system, has also been tested and proven both by institutions and in hundreds of practical applications in road vehicles.

Here is a synopsis of a sampling of the research that has been done:

* In 1974 John Houseman and D.J/Cerini of the Jet Propulsion Lab, California Institute of Technology produced a report for the Society of Automotive Engineers entitled "On-Board Hydrogen Generator for a Partial Hydrogen Injection Internal Combustion Engine".
* In 1974 F.W. Hoehn and M.W. Dowy of the Jet Propulsion Lab, prepared a report for the 9th Inter society Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, entitled "Feasibility Demonstration of a Road Vehicle Fueled with Hydrogen Enriched Gasoline."

In the early eighties George Vosper P. Eng., ex-professor of Dynamics and Canadian inventor, designed and patented a device to transform internal combustion engines to run on hydrogen. He later affirms: "A small amount of hydrogen added to the air intake of a gasoline engine would enhance the flame velocity and thus permit the engine to operate with leaner air to gasoline mixture than otherwise possible. The result, far less pollution with more power and better mileage." In 1995, Wagner, Jamal and Wyszynski, at the Birmingham, of University Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing>, demonstrated the advantages of "Fractional addition of hydrogen to internal combustion engines by exhaust gas fuel reforming." The process yielded benefits in improved combustion stability and reduced nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbon emissions

BUT THEN...
From http://paultan.org

"Using hydrogen as a supplemental “fuel” in a regular petrol combustion engine has even been the subject of an SAE paper (#2002-01-2196 Performance and Fuel Consumption Estimation of a Hydrogen Enriched Gasoline Engine at Part-Load Operation - I bought it for USD14.00). The paper discusses the idea of hydrogen being introduced into the combustion process to enable leaning out the air-fuel mixture - more air and less fuel required. The end result MAY be similiar to the fuel savings achieved by lean burn operation in a direct injection engine. I was shocked to read that the SAE paper found petrol consumption was reduced by up to 56% depending on conditions!

The other issue that may or may not be of concern is hydrogen embrittlement, where metals especially high-strengh steel can become brittle and crack when exposed to hydrogen. Exposing your combustion chamber to hydrogen may cause your cylinder to crack! Check out the wikipedia page I linked for more info about this. This is quite an issue in the hydrogen economy and engines that burn hydrogen (instead of using hydrogen in a fuel cell) such as the motor in BMW’s Hydrogen 7 and Mazda’s hydrogen-powered RENESIS have been specially designed to withstand this."

DNA

SYED HAMID: Anwar should not be worried about giving DNA sample
BERNAMA
KUALA LUMPUR,Thurs:
Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not be worried about giving his DNA sample if he wanted to uphold the truth.
“The simple thing is to give the DNA and let the expert read the sample because DNA don’t lie, why should you be worried? Let them investigate,” he told a news conference at his office at the parliament building here today.

BUT THEN......

DNA : Good reasons to fear

The following is the full statement given at a press conference called by embattled opposition leader’s lawyer R Sivarasa.

"In 1998-1999 trials, Anwar experienced the phenomenon of fabrication of DNA evidence. We had SAC Rodwan illegally removing DNA samples from forensic custody. In cross-examination of the prosecution’s witnesses it was exposed that DNA taken from blood samples was planted on the infamous mattress.

When confronted with this fact the prosecution amended its charge and persuaded the judge, Augustine Paul (now Federal Court judge), to expunge the entire DNA evidence from the record, preventing Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyers from responding."

"Anwar has even more reason to believe of the probability that DNA evidence will be fabricated once again. This is reasonable because the complainant remains in police custody since June 28, 2008 and the police are also in possession of Anwar’s DNA from the earlier case."

From Bernama.com

PETALING JAYA, July 19 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim Saturday maintained he would not allow his DNA sample to be taken over a sodomy allegation, saying he had last subjected himself to a DNA test in 2004 and that result was still applicable.

He claimed that blood samples were taken from him five or six times while he was serving a six-year jail term for corruption from April 1999.

Anwar said there was no sound reason for him to undergo a DNA test, considering that the last one was done in 2004 and that DNA data would remain unchanged for a long period.

"In fact, a fresh DNA sample is unnecessary. The (DNA) data will not change even in 2,000 years. If there is a sample, I do not see the need for me to give (a sample) once again," he said in an address at the PKR headquarters here.
Home Ministry to fast track DNA Identification Bill

From http://sun2surf.com/

PETALING JAYA (July 20, 2008) : The Cabinet has directed the Home Ministry to table the proposed DNA Identification Bill in the next parliament meeting beginning on Aug 18, so that the law can be passed soonest.
But with only eight days (Monday to Thursday for two weeks) to meet in August and several other bills scheduled to be tabled for debate for the duration, the big question is whether the Parliament will give priority to the tabling and debate of the DNA bill which is hot on the heels of the sodomy accusation against Anwar,

If it does, will the public not believe that it is indeed aimed at the PKR de facto leader?" Nanyang asked.

Pusrawi Can Be Penalised For Negligence

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 31 (Bernama) -- Hospital Pusrawi is liable to a fine of up to RM300,000 and its management can also be imprisoned if investigations reveal that there was negligence which led to the leakage of information concerning the 'medical report' on Mohd Saiful Bukhari who had earlier claimed that he was sodomised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

SAIFUL POLICE REPORT
Electric News . July 10

`This case is full of holes. For example, the police report wasn't even given to me. I asked for it in court and they said no.'So after court yesterday, I went back and wrote them a letter and still they said no.'I wrote them an appeal letter and finally, they said yes. Then this morning, they say I cannot get it. There are just so many inconsistencies.'

Tips on filling your car fuel - Save money

Got this from : http://www.myklang.com/

I don't know what you guys are paying for petrol.... but here in Durban we are also paying higher, up to R7.35 per litre.

But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every litre. Here at the Marian Hill Pipeline where I work in Durban , we deliver about 4 million litres in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and petrol, LRP and Unleaded. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 litres.

Only buy or fill up your car or bakkie in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands,so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your litre is not exactly a litre. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapours that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapour. Those vapours are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every litre is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a fuel truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy, DO NOT fill up--most likely the petrol/diesel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

High-Pitch Alarm Quietens Youths

BBC 12 February 2008

"A device which emits a high-pitched noise has cut the number of complaints about anti-social behaviour in one area of Merseyside.A mobile mosquito alarm, which can only be heard by younger people, is being used at Thatto Heath in St Helens.
Merseyside Police said they had been dealing with an increased number of calls about youth disorder.
But since the device was installed a week ago and police patrols stepped up, complaints have fallen"

- Imagine police using this device instead of firearms to catch crooks or disperse unruly crowds

- Imagine wars being fought using this device - no bloodshed but battalion of armies and the public suffering deafening ringing in theirs ears.

CHEAPER THAN THY NEIGHBOUR

It has been said once too often the cost of petrol in this country is much lower then neighbouring countries. But alas it was revealed by the younger brother of an infamous politician that petrol producing countries does not charge the world market price to their own citizen. Could this be `Negara Kebajikan' at its best ? The overhead cost of producing petrol remains and our beloved PETRONAS has been making humongous profit. Vroom - vroom - vroom - Viva F1 - we are famous and contented?

Show Me The Way

It has been said often enough this land has a 1st world infrastructure but the people at large has a third world mentality. Said in the press.. said in the air ...said by those who are often too blind to see the root ..the source...of what is being said. Often failing to look into their own image in the mirror.
See the sprawling highways ... see the uneven roads... see the gaping potholes... and where are the early warnings that the road ahead will suddenly turns 3 lanes into one ...it even get worst when it is pouring or in the dark . Expansion works not done in systematic stages but a bit here and there causing nerve wrecking dangerous stunts.
Come visit my country ...come...come... but don't hire a car and self drive. Going to Cameron Highlands from the north ??? Don't ever follow the signboard.. it will take your to the old, winding, nerve wrecking, high risks, steep ... potential land slides and falling trees .. route. Mr Plus Highway ... you collect millions in toll ... can't you show your paying users the safest and the safest way there ... or you one of those with this third world selfish mentality who practically owned a first world (almost) infrastructure ???
And how come there are so many tow trucks waiting along the new Highland roads. Angels who helps or .....
Have a nice Sunday !!

Aha..aha..Correct..Correct.. whoa!!

In a court of law, can a witness or a person charged, claim to forget or ignorance? The police or the persecuting party I'm sure have done their groundwork, investigations or whatever before hand. With evidence laid, the presiding judge I'm sure will make whatever decision in the name of justice. Does this apply to a Royal Commission too ? We have last week witnesses who are ignorance happy and amnesia happy. What can the Royal Commission do ? Are they tied by some terms of reference. I'm sure whatever terms of reference exist , isn't it truth they are seeking ? And what about the messenger, is he going to be shot again and again. When will he be heard ? That ` aha .. aha.. correct..correct...correct.." video in You Tube really can't stop banging in my mind...aha..aha.. correct..correct.. there it goes again
